TDM Consultancy Services can assist with linking technology and the environment using a revolutionary new platform, with the assistance of London South Bank University. The proprietor, Tina Irving, has a BSc in Computing and Spanish from LSBU, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Economics, Policy and Risk.

Environmental economics is not well understood in many quarters, but the design of the Belfast Transport Hub (Weaverscross) has taken it all into account, putting Belfast at the forefront of transport systems in the UK. The design is an example which should be followed when major new developments are proposed. Belfast leads the way, although there are gas and electric buses in many cities and towns nowadays, electric cars and charging points are becoming more common, even in the far flung corners of Scotland.

To underpin the trend of sustainable tourism, a good technological basis required, and TDM Consultancy Services, who developed the Green Academy, have been working with London South Bank University for some years to develop the technology. With experience in the north of Scotland in developing the North Highland Way, a multi use route between Durness and Duncansby Head, it is hoped that this will become the model for all long distance routes in the future. The design is backed by the Highland Council, and the promotors have been working with public services for many years to develop the project further. The basic route is in. It is not a built path, but a “way to go”. The beauty of the north of Scotland, and, indeed, Ireland, must not be overrun with bigger and bigger cars.  ViewRanger and Ordnance Survey have been long term partners of the organisation.

Environmental issues – how they began

Rachel Carson (1907 – 1964) was allegedly the first environmentalist, having written her book “Silen Spring” in 1962. “Only within the moment of time represented by the present century has one species — man – acquired significant power to alter the nature of his world.” She was best known for challenging the idea that man could alter nature by force. The profligate use of DDT and other chemicals on nature was commonplace in those days, and, thankfully, man has seen sense. Farmers are controlled by the research completed by the supermarkets and rules concerning chemical usage must be strictly adhered to for the protection of public health and well-being.

Concerns about climate change and rising sea levels appear to be more prevalent in the US than in the UK, although the Green Party are gaining ground.  The idea of sustainable tourism is still not well understood.  The growth of sustainable travel is gaining ground.

“Sustainable tourism is one which establishes a suitable balance between the environmental, economic and socio-cultural aspects of tourism development. It also plays an important role in conserving biodiversity. It is committed to making a low impact on the environment and local culture, while helping to generate future employment for local people. The positive of sustainable tourism is to ensure that development is a positive experience for local people; tourism companies; and tourists themselves.” Source: http://www.gdrc.org/uem/eco-tour/sustour-define.html

We all live in the world, we need to conserve it for future generations, and one of TDM Consultancy Services’ aims is to help young people to learn about the environment as an academic as a number of organisations in Ireland already do on a practical level by teaching from an early age.

We hope that public bodies and academic institutions will take the opportunity of visiting the stand at the Northern Ireland Manufacturing & Supply Chain Conference & Exhibition, 27th February 2020 at Titanic Exhibition Centre, and talking to the representatives there.
