Steel manufacturer Keystone Group restarts factories
The Northern Ireland-based company shut down its operations following the Prime Minister’s lockdown announcement on 23 March. Keystone has since implemented changes to its manufacturing and dispatch processes in line with government guidance, and restarted production last week.
A statement from the firm said: “We have made tentative moves to remobilise some of our manufacturing locations with skeleton production and transport teams to manufacture and dispatch goods to support our customers. We will continue to scale production and logistics responsibly as merchants and building sites begin to reopen and we see an increase in activity and demand. We would encourage contractors, specifiers and merchants to continue to engage with our customer-facing teams with any concerns they may have at this time.”
The majority of Keystone’s 1,300 workers had been placed onto the government’s furlough scheme for the first three weeks of lockdown, aside from the skeleton staff who were needed to provide support for customers working on essential construction projects.
