Dublin Liberties Distillery has become the 22nd operational Irish whiskey distillery on the island of Ireland. The new €10 million distillery located in Dublin’s Liberties has commenced Irish whiskey distillation and has also opened the doors on a distillery visitor centre, which can accommodate up to 80,000 visitors annually. It marks the fourth Irish whiskey visitor centre to open in Dublin city centre.

The distillery is controlled by Quintessential Brands, an independent international spirits group with a portfolio of premium brands across whiskey, gin and Irish cream liqueur.

Head of the Irish Whiskey Association, William Lavelle, has congratulated the Dublin Liberties Distillery and Quintessential Brands team led by Head Distiller Darryl McNally. William Lavelle said: “The Irish whiskey industry is growing, and it is particularly special to see the Liberties play such a central role in its revival.  The area has a long and proud heritage in whiskey production. Last year we saw 923,000 tourists visit Irish whiskey distillery visitor centres across the country. We expect this number to grow again in 2019. The new Dublin Liberties Distillery will play a key role in driving this growth and educating both Irish and overseas visitors on the legendary whiskey heritage of the Liberties and Dublin 8. It’s a very exciting time for the industry. We look forward to welcoming several more distilleries on stream in the coming months.”

2018 was another year of exceptional sales growth for Irish whiskey, with global sales exceeding 10.5 million cases. 2018 marked the first year that Irish whiskey sales have broken the 10 million case barrier since before prohibition in the US in the 1920’s.

The Irish Whiskey Association (IWA) is the representative trade association of the Irish whiskey industry. The IWA forms part of ABFI (Alcohol Beverage Federation of Ireland) which is part of Ibec.
