downloadDomino’s is to create 600 jobs for Ireland in the lead up to the Euro 2016 football tournament in France and the Rio Olympics.

The 1,000 jobs are being created as part of a recruitment drive for the firm that will see it add 10,000 staff members across the UK and Ireland.

The company said it expects 160 pizzas to be ordered every minute daily during the football tournament. A further 400 new roles are to be created in the North. The move is part of the company’s plans to open more stores in the UK and Ireland by the end of the year.

Domino’s chief executive David Wild described 2016 as a “bumper year”, adding: “We have plans to open around 65 new stores and we’ll serve up over seven million pizzas during the Euros alone.”

The company confirmed last night that the roles would be permanent and not just to meet increased demand during this summer’s sports tournaments.

Pre-tax profits last year rose by 20pc to £59.3m (€76m) in the 12-month period to the end of December as the company saved £11m on food costs.

Domino’s also owns franchises in Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg.

Domino’s sits behind Pizza Hut as the second-largest pizza chain in the world, with 12,000 outlets. The company is reportedly investing in the areas of drone delivery and bots.

Shares in Domino’s have rocketed in recent times to as high as $140 (€123.3). However, they have since fallen back, trading at $124.2 yesterday.
