DCU Alpha to support 800 jobs and 100 companies
DCU Alpha, formerly known as DCU Innovation Campus, has announced that it plans to support 100 companies and 800 jobs over the next three years.
The innovation cluster, which houses over 30 companies and 350 jobs, has announced its new plan with a focus on Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
Irish start-up Neosfar has announced the creation of 30 new jobs and a new research and development facility. Indian software company NIIT has also confirmed that it will base its new European delivery centre at DCU Alpha in Dublin.
Executive Director Ronan Furlong says this mix makes it an attractive option for clean tech, industrial automation and internet of things companies: “That requires physical space and it is not the type of thing that is going to happen in a shiny glass box in Silicon Docs at €60 a square foot,it’s gong to happen somewhere else and the University is set up to do this based on our own capabilities and competences
“ The site is set up to do it based on the mix of physical buildings out there, ultimately it’s not being catered for currently in Dublin and that is where our target market is.”
DCU Alpha is located on a site that was originally established as the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards. It is now home to over 30 domestic and international companies working on the next generation of technologies that bridge the digital and physical divide (the Internet of Things) across cleantech, machine-to-machine communications, sensor tech, wearables, ICT, Industrial automation and connected hardware.
