An efficient, well resourced and integrated clean water and waste water system is crucial to prosperous economic growth, both nationally and regionally, and to Ireland’s ability to continue to attract foreign direct investment.
Water & Waste Water Infrastructure
In the period from 2021-2025 almost €6 billion of capital investment will be undertaken by Irish Water, the national water utility, to deliver improvements to water and wastewater services throughout Ireland. This investment in public water infrastructure is designed to deliver critical outcomes for customers and communities across the strategic objective themes of Quality, Conservation and Future Proofing.
Ongoing investment includes individual projects such as building new or upgrading existing water and wastewater treatment plants and updating existing networks. It also includes national programmes like leakage reduction or disinfection programmes where important activities are being delivered at a large scale in a consistent and efficient way across the country.
Industries including food and beverage, pharmaceutical, medical, chemical, life sciences, electronics, engineering, transport, technology, building products, fabrics, polymers, packaging, precision engineering and renewable are also experiencing increased demand for high quality water and will need to meet stringent EU environmental quality standards and regulations. ESG & Sustainability concerns are leading to significant investments in water efficiency, wastewater treatment and waste to energy programmes.
