Aerogen Wins Irish Medtech Company of the Year 2020
The Irish Medtech Association, the Ibec group that represents the medtech sector, Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland have announced that Galway-based Aerogen has been awarded Irish Medtech Company of the Year at the Association’s annual Medtech Rising conference, which this year took place virtually. The announcement was one of several awards made at the conference, where the medtech community gathered virtually to recognise the strength and importance of the sector in improving lives.
Irish Medtech Association Director Sinead Keogh said: “We’re delighted to announce Aerogen as this year’s Irish Medtech Company of the Year. Aerogen was established in Galway more than 20 years ago and has become internationally synonymous with the effective treatment of respiratory illness among patient groups of all ages playing a critical role in emergency departments and intensive care units in over 75 countries worldwide.”
Aerogen CEO John Power said: “In a year of unprecedented worldwide turmoil Aerogen product utilisation surpassed the 10 million patient mark for the first time and recorded 30%+ growth across our business. This could only have been achieved with the dedication and passion of our team both in Ireland and globally and their unwavering commitment to bring the very best solutions in drug delivery to the most vulnerable of patients in acute care. It therefore gives me great delight on behalf of the Aerogen team to accept the Company of the Year Award 2020”.
Sinead Keogh also noted: “This year’s ‘Medtech Rising: Irish Medtech Awards’ included two new categories. We’d like to congratulate DePuy for winning the Women in Leadership Company Initiative Award for its Re-Ignite program, a paid ‘returnship’ initiative. We’d also congratulate Medtronic for winning the exceptional Covid-19 Response Recognition Award, which increased its ventilator production by 5 times in less than 5 months, moved to 24/7 operations in the Galway plant, shared full designs for a Medtronic Galway engineered ventilator.”
“We’re also delighted for Boston Scientific which won the Best Value of Medtech Campaign Award. This award recognizes companies that lead innovative initiatives to help improve the awareness of the lifechanging medical technologies they develop as part of the European ‘Value of Medtech’ campaign.”
Enterprise Ireland’s Head of Lifesciences Deirdre Glenn said: “We’re proud to recognise the role that start-ups and SMEs play in Ireland’s dynamic medtech ecosystem. This year’s Emerging Medtech Company of the Year has been awarded to Perfuze which is developing a catheter-based solution to Acute Ischemic Stroke with the potential to help millions. Academic partnerships also play a vital role in developing disruptive technologies and the winner of the Academic Contribution to Medtech Award is Irish Photonic Integration Centre (IPIC) from Cork. IPIC is involved in world-leading activity in biophotonics, and in combination with fabrication, assembly and prototyping activities at Tyndall National Institute, it is developing and deploying novel high value-add products in partnership with numerous companies from Ireland’s medtech industry.”
IDA Ireland’s MedTech Department Manager Rachel Shelly said: “One of the key elements which makes Ireland a global success is the capability of our world class contract manufacturers. It’s terrific to acknowledge the success of West Pharmaceutical Services which won the MedTech Partner/Supplier of the Year Award for its strategic partnership with Kuehne + Nagel which enabled it to build supply chain capacity whilst allowing West Pharma to focus on its core technical and manufacturing competency. As Ireland has been playing a growing role developing digital health solutions, this year saw many companies step-up to the challenge of Covid-19. S3 Connected Health won the eHealth Innovation of the Year Award for its clinical support tool which helps healthcare professionals with triage, monitoring, and treatment of Covid-19 patients in-hospitals. Congratulations to the entire S3 Connected Health team.”
