Applications Sought to Suspend Import Duties
Manufacturers importing from outside the EU were asked to apply for a scheme that allows for tariffs to be dropped on raw materials, components and intermediate products that cannot be sourced in the EU, The Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation announced on Sunday.
The tariff quota scheme is designed to address shortages in the availability of required materials in the chemicals, microelectronic and related sectors within the EU and can be applied for in the same way as suspensions.

“Production costs are a chief concern of any manufacturer operating in the global marketplace as keeping costs down is key to maintaining a competitive edge,” Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O’Connor T.D said. “The tariff suspension and quota schemes can help businesses that cannot source necessary components in the EU and are forced to import from outside the Union. I would encourage all Irish manufacturers to avail of these schemes where possible.”
Closing date and time for the receipt of the next round of applications is 5.30p.m. on Friday, 27 January 2017. Applications should be sent by e-mail to tariffschemes@djei.ieand posted to the Department at the address below. Please note that late or incomplete applications will not be accepted by the Department.
The suspension of duties on these applications, if they are successful, will come into effect 12 months after the application is made.
