b0kbw9u8rv9v01rw7m1c3hpvxa2xp7rMinister for Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD today announced that MathWorks, the leading developer of mathematical computing software for engineers and scientists, is to establish a shared sales and services centre in Galway. The company’s long term investment in Galway includes plans to fill 50 positions in its new location.  The company is actively recruiting to fill more than 20 of these positions. The project is supported by the Department of Enterprise, Trade & Innovation through IDA Ireland.

MathWorks was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in Natick, Massachusetts.  The company’s flagship products, MATLAB and Simulink, are used throughout the automotive, aerospace, communications, electronics, and industrial automation industries as fundamental tools for research and development. They are also used for modeling and simulation in increasingly technical fields, such as financial services and computational biology. More than 5000 colleges and universities around the world use MATLAB and Simulink for teaching and research in a broad range of technical disciplines. The company employs more than 3,500 people around the world.

The new centre in Galway will support the company’s EMEA markets across a range of customer-facing roles including sales and services support, inside sales, channel development and support, finance and administration.

Welcoming today’s announcement, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD, said: “Today’s announcement that MathWorks is setting up their EMEA centre creating jobs in Galway is great news. We are all aware that specialist software is a huge growth area and the generator of quality jobs. This initiative builds on our success in developing a thriving software sector in Ireland over recent years following our ongoing investment in developing appropriate skills. I am particularly delighted that MathWorks have chosen to invest in a regional location and this reflects the work the Government is driving on the Action Plan for Jobs process.

Richard Haxby, managing director, MathWorks Galway said, “MathWorks is very pleased to become part of the Galway community. We selected Ireland because it has built a core competency in shared sales and services centre operations. Additionally, Galway has access to a diverse multi-lingual workforce, and it has a university system that attracts talent from all over Europe.”

CEO of IDA Ireland, Martin Shanahan said: “This announcement by MathWorks that it is making a significant investment in Ireland to support future growth across EMEA in a key regional location is excellent news. It adds to IDA’s significant cluster of technology companies in Galway, reinforcing the area’s reputation as an ideal location for such business. I wish the MathWorks team every success here.”

Recruitment is already underway. For information on the new roles go to the MathWorks Galway career site: http://www.mathworks.com/company/jobs/galwayarea.htm
