downloadIreland’s first ever apprenticeship program for accountants is set to start in Ireland creating 100 new jobs.

The inaugural Accounting Technician Apprenticeship will be offered to both young school leavers and mature students at colleges based in Cork, Dublin , Monaghan and Wicklow.

Major accountancy firms such as EY, Grant Thornton and BDO has come on board with the program which promises a chance for people to become a qualified accounting technician in just two years. The programs will be at first based in colleges in Cork, Dublin, Monaghan and Wicklow.

Accounting Technicians Ireland say the fast-track programme will address a 66% increase in demand for accounting technicians last year.

Successful apprentices will spend four days working with the employer and one day in college during the two-year course, which begins in September.

The graduates can then continue their studies to become a fully-qualified Chartered Accountant.

ATI is introducing the programme here after two successful years in Northern Ireland.

They are holding an Open Day in Dublin at their Dublin offices – Chartered Accountants House on Pearse Street on Wednesday June 29th from 3.00pm.

“This is the only apprenticeship council approved programme of its kind in the Republic of Ireland,” says Richard Mullins, ATI’s marketing and digital media manager.

“ATI is currently affiliated with 70 college locations across Ireland and hopes to further roll out this programme in other counties in future years.”
