Donald Rumsfeld has created a Solitaire app
The award for most unlikely app developer of 2016 might already be wrapped up after former US secretary of defence Donald Rumsfeld released his first iOS game.
Not only that, but the game is based on Winston Churchill’s favourite card game – a version the former prime minister played late at night to keep his mind sharp as he battled insomnia.
Churchill Solitaire is a bigger, trickier version of the classic card game, involving two decks of cards instead of one. And Rumsfeld comes into this because he was taught the game by Andre de Staercke, the Belgian ambassador to the Allied forces during World War II, who then taught it to Rumsfeld when he was the US ambassador to Nato in the 1970s.
Rumsfeld was then an advisor on the game, created by an independent developer, offering advice on the structure of it, as well as playing hours of beta tests in order to get the gameplay just right.

Donald Henry Rumsfeld is an American politician and businessman. Rumsfeld served as the 13th Secretary of Defense from 1975 to 1977 under President Gerald Ford, and as the 21st Secretary of Defense from 2001 to 2006 under President George W. Bush.
