Launch of 2015 ‘Energy in Ireland’ report focusing on energy trend from 1990-201
This Thursday marks the last official engagement of Dr. Brian Motherway as CEO of SEAI before he departs to take up the position with the International Energy Agency (IEA) as Head of its International Energy Efficiency Division in Paris.
Dr. Motherway will launch the ‘Energy in Ireland’ report which presents an overview of energy trends in Ireland since 1990. The publication is very timely in the context of COP21, which opens on Monday, November 30th, highlighting Ireland’s progress to date and where there is a need for accelerated action. With a global and legally binding emissions agreement imminent at COP21, we anticipate a huge stimulus to an already significant global market for clean energy. Last year over €400 billion was spent in this sector and this figure will rise exponentially if COP21 delivers. Ireland is incredibly well placed to exploit this opportunity.
The information in the report confirms that energy efficiency and renewable energy measures are having a real impact in Ireland – reducing energy usage and helping to decarbonise our energy system.
Dr Motherway and Dr Eimear Cotter (Head of Low Carbon Technologies, SEAI) will be available to discuss the report highlights with media, ahead of the main report launch later on Thursday morning.
Please confirm your attendance in advance.
