AvantCard, one of Ireland largest credit card company is to cut nearly a quarter of it’s workforce at it’s Carrick-on-Shannon office in Co. Leitrim.

The company has struggled to attract new customers due to changing trends, new technologies and more people carrying out financial transactions online.

In a statement the company said: “Like many other employers, we regularly review our business to ensure that it is right for our customers, reflecting any changes in customer behaviour and the competitive marketplace. Following a detailed review, it is with regret that we confirm that we are planning to reduce our workforce across our business areas.”

The company has a workforce of 170 staff that have largely been involved in customer service and administration roles.

The company has entered into a consultation period with employees and hopes to achieve as many of the job cuts as possible via voluntary redundancy.

The firm said it still remains committed to growing its business in Ireland.
