NIBRT hosts biopharma job fair for 3,000 jobs announced in past year
Careers event with more than 500 jobseekers to meet 20 companies
The National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT) is today holding its second ‘Careers in Biopharma’ job fair with 20 companies, recruiting for over 3,000 positions, from across the biopharma sector taking part. The oversubscribed event will see upwards of 500 prospective candidates matched up with bluechip biopharma companies. The company hosted its inaugural ‘Careers in Biopharma’ job fair last year with great success and have decided to facilitate the needs of employers and candidates alike by bringing it back this year. In 2014, biopharma and related sectors announced plans to create over 3,000 new jobs in the sector as it continues to experience strong growth.
Dominic Carolan, CEO of NIBRT said, “The Irish biopharma industry is experiencing a fantastic period of growth and has been boosted by a stream of significant new investments in recent months. With investment comes jobs and we are hoping this year’s ‘Careers in Biopharma’ jobs fair will match great candidates with suitable employers from across the industry.
“We recognise that the skills required for these jobs are very complex in their nature and we strive to address the skillsgap in the industry. In addition to training upwards of 3,300 people employed in the industry each year, NIBRT is actively involved in upskilling people with manufacturing experience who are out of work. As part of the Springboard initiative, NIBRT provides training support to over 400 people each year to help develop the expertise required to work in the sector. In the last year alone, 65% of jobseekers who attended our training programmes gained employment in biopharma.”

The Careers in Biopharma event will include:
- An overview of the employment opportunities available in the biopharma industry and the skills set required
- Presentations from blue-chip biopharma companies including Amgen, Pfizer Grangecastle, BioMarin and Alexion on opportunities available.
- Opportunities for 1-1 meetings between employers and prospective candidates.
- Details on training and education programmes, including an opportunity to enrol on free Springboard programmes.
- A tour of NIBRT’s state-of-the-art training pilot plant facilities.
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, said: “Biopharma is an industry playing a key role in our plans for continued jobs growth in this country. This is a sector which we have specifically targeted as part of our Action Plan for Jobs due to the huge potential for growth that it offers, and we have put in place specific measures to support jobs expansion in this area. We have seen significant investment in this area over recent months and today’s event provides a great example of the major opportunities that are available in this area.”
