100 new jobs for Limerick as WP Engine opens new centre
Around 100 new jobs are set to be created over the next three years in Limerick as WP Engine has just opened its new Technical Support & Innovation Centre.
The company delivers managing services for premium sites built on WordPress. Approximately 5% of the whole online world visits a WP Engine-powered WordPress site each day.
According to the company, its customer base has doubled in size since the launch of its London office last year. The new Limerick site will support its expanding customer base across the EMEA region.
The first customer hub outside the US, WP Engine cited the highly skilled technical talent in the area as a key driver behind their decision to choose Limerick. The city currently boasts a large R&D operation for the company, with a dedicated team working to accelerate development of the company’s WordPress platform.
The investment project was supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland. Attendees at the opening included the minister for that department, Mary Mitchell O’Connor and local TD and Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan. Also in attendance was WP Engine CEO Heather Brunner.
Speaking at the event, Minister for Employment and Small Business Pat Breen said: “All jobs created have a positive knock on effect on the wider region. It is important that we continue to pursue opportunities for investment and job creation in new and emerging technology sectors. This investment is a testament to the skilled workforce and attractiveness of the region.”
Brunner commented: “As a company we aim to be present in cities that are successful in terms of job creation and attracting businesses – as represented by our offices in Austin, San Antonio, San Francisco, and more recently London. Limerick, similarly, has a terrific environment and culture where the community, government and business leaders are committed to building local talent and creating a technology innovation and incubation centre.”
